A complete 10-lesson unit for VCE VM Work Related Skills Unit 2, Area of Study 2, mapped to the VCAA study design and ready to teach.
Students begin by identifying the transferable and employability skills they already have, then explore how those skills apply across different jobs and industries, what lifelong learning looks like in practice, and how to build a career toolkit with real strategies for development. The second half of the unit moves into the recruitment process, reading and decoding job advertisements, understanding how employers shortlist, writing a tailored resume and cover letter, building an evidence bank and preparing for interview using the STAR framework.
The unit builds toward a mock interview assessment using a real job ad students select in Lesson 6 and work with across the remaining lessons. Teachers should allow approximately 15 lessons to complete the unit, as several lessons, particularly the application and interview lessons, are likely to extend beyond a single 60-minute period. Assessment tasks can be run across multiple lessons and adapted to suit the cohort.
