This is the full suite, and contains 20 weeks woth of content. This unit is intended to be run 1 at least 1 hour per week, or can be run via a "Work Ready Day" where students complete 5-6 "lessons" at once. This unit will allow students to gain an extra credit (unit). Below are some images of what's included in the pack:
Who it's for
Students enrolled in a VE1 VCE VET program (minimum 180 nominal hours) or a VE2 School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT). Not available to VE3 students.
Structure
Two units — Unit 1: Learning in the Workplace and Unit 2: Developing in the Workplace. Students must complete Unit 1 before Unit 2. Maximum of two units across their whole VCE program.
What's required
At least 20 hours of scheduled classroom instruction per unit
80 hours of SWL placement per unit
A completed Workplace Learning Record (WLR) per unit
Students must have commenced the WHS unit of competency from their VET qualification before starting placement
The credit
Each unit that is satisfactorily completed counts as a unit towards the student's VCE. So a student doing a VET qualification can also earn VCE credit for their workplace learning — that's the additional credit referenced in the marketing copy.
Assessment
Two school-based tasks — one pre-placement (Stage 1, Lesson 10) and one post-placement (Stage 2, Lessons 19-20). Students choose their format from five options each time.
The extra credit
SWLR sits alongside a student's VET qualification. Each unit satisfactorily completed counts as an additional VCE credit — meaning students get recognition for the workplace learning they are already doing.
VCAA alignment
All 20 lessons are mapped to the SWLR Unit 1 Key Knowledge and Key Skills from the VCAA study design. The curriculum map shows exactly where every lesson sits against the outcomes.
